Hipgnosis Songs is an investment company that has made a multi-million dollar business out of buying music rights from major artists. Its founder is former Elton John and Guns ‘n’ Roses manager Merck Mercuriadis.

Timbaland, RZA & Shakira: Some of the biggest artists in pop history have already sold the entirety of their music rights. In May of this year, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers sold their publishing rights to Hipgnosis. For about $150 million, as Billboard reported.
