Drake x Daring Foods

Drake is one of Daring Foods’ new investors. The Los Angeles-based company specializes in faux chicken.

The company was founded in 2018 and premiered its first items last year. Their stated goal is to completely remove real chicken meat from the market. “An industry that’s as unsustainable as it is unethical and unjust.”

shawty with the real meat, I don’t talk

Through a series B funding which was led by D1 Capital Partners, Daring Foods was able to raise around $40 million. Last October the company was already able to scoop in $8 million in funding, Bloomberg reports.

Daring Foods considers itself part of the second wave in the fake meat movement. Their focus is particularly on the health aspects, as CEO Ross Mackay explains:

“The first wave of plant-based was really focused on taste and texture, but then you had the sacrifice of other elements, like health.”

What is supposed to make Daring stand out from the competition is their shortlist of all-natural ingredients and a low number of calories.

Chicken is the most popular meat across the U.S. and the faux chicken market is forecast to reach $8 billion by 2030.

Through the investment, Daring Foods intends to expand its distribution network. Currently, their products are available at Krogers and Costco. In the future, retail distribution is to be extended to over 4,500 stores throughout the US.

I want a long life, a legendary one

For Drake, it’s an extremely fitting investment. Not only is the food market becoming more and more attractive for artists, but Drizzy has also been a committed vegetarian for several years.

As usual with the 6 God, it should hardly surprise anyone if after this announcement more artists will follow in Drake’s footsteps and try to serve this market as well.

In Germany, too, the food made by rap stars is booming like never before. Shirin David recently announced the upcoming release of her long-awaited iced tea, which will be called “Dirtea“.

Massiv, who has just opened his new “Baba Döner” store in Offenbach am Main, took a less vegetarian approach than Drizzy.
